International Women's Day

This International Women's Day, we're thrilled to share the inspiring journey of our Director of Property Sales, Melinda Illes. Her knowledge, passion and dedication to her work continue to empower and inspire us every day. 

What inspired you to pursue a career in property? 

“I've always loved interior design and spent years restoring our family holiday home. So it felt natural to want to work in property, and it's been an incredible journey for the last 15 years!” 

How has your role evolved? 

“Starting from the bottom was the best way to learn. I worked my way up from Lettings Negotiator to Branch Manager in London, then moved to Edinburgh to focus on business development. Now, with over 300 staff at DJ Alexander, the core of our success in property is exceptional customer service, empathy, and problem-solving.” 

What achievement are you most proud of? 

“Leading my team to incredible growth and securing a top estate agent title in Edinburgh despite fierce competition. I'm proud of our resilience and drive to keep breaking records.” 

Can you share a moment where you made a real impact? 

“Transforming the sales team's process to improve efficiency and customer experience. I thrive on finding better ways to do things and appreciate the freedom to innovate—even when ideas don't always work, trying is key!” 

How do you inspire others? 

“By fostering a supportive, inclusive work environment where everyone's ideas matter. Empowering rather than micromanaging helps people flourish.” 

What advice do you have for women entering the property industry? 

“Go for it! It's more than a job—it's a passion. No two days are the same, and you'll gain invaluable life skills.”
